In the early days of VCRs, the FCC required TV stations to turn off the color burst signal when a black & white movie was shown. Media Associates designed this unit to detect the color burst signal and turn on a relay that places your VCR into "pause" mode. This way, if you recorded a black & white movie, the VCR would "pause" during the color commercial breaks. Actually quite innovative for it's day!  A fascinating piece of early 1980's VCR history!
